About the Guest Preacher

Rev. Dr. Patricia A. Gould-Champ

Pastor & Founder, Faith Community Baptist Church

The Reverend Dr. Patricia A. Gould-Champ will be the speaker of the hour for our special anniversary service on November 15, 2o20. She has served faithfully as the Pastor and Founding Visionary of the Faith Community Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia for the past twenty-three years.    Her thirty-seven year ministry career has focused on service to the least and the left out.  The overwhelming goal and desire of her preaching and teaching is that people be saved, delivered and empowered to live as God’s people in this world.  Through her leadership, FAITH continues to serve the communities of Fairfield, Whitcomb, and Creighton Courts in the East End of the City of Richmond through such staple outreach ministries as the Tuesday Feeding Ministry, Spring Bible and Economic Enrichment Camp, and the R.I.S.E. (Respect, Integrity, Success and Empowerment) Women’s Empowerment Group, a 24-week, intimate focus group for the women in Fairfield, Whitcomb, and Creighton Courts.

Academically, she holds an earned doctorate in Educational Administration from Virginia

Polytechnic Institute and State University and received her Master of Divinity degree, summa cum laude, from the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University, where she has served as an Associate Professor of Practical Theology for the past twenty-five years.  Her seminary senior sermon entitled, “An Unfinished Agenda” is published in Ella Mitchell’s book, Those Preaching Women, Volume II.   She is the author of The Gospel According to Cancer: Reflections for Women with Cancer, Pamela Gets Baptized, which is a follow-up to her first book, Pamela Goes to Church.  She is currently completing a manuscript, Without a Blueprint:  Reflections of a Female Pastor.

Dr. Gould-Champ was elected as the 35th and first female president of the Baptist General Convention of Virginia in 2003.  After completing a one-year appointment as a member of the Interim Executive Minister Team responsible for Staff and Office Operations; she served as the Chairperson of the Executive Minister Search Committee for the Baptist General Convention in 2017.  Dr. Gould-Champ became a Board member of the Soul Ice Foundation which is in partnership with CID, Inc., the 501c3 community development corporation of which she has been president since 1995.  With her leadership, an Urban Social Enterprise Consortium has been formed to empower inner city residents and provide workforce development training.

Dr. Gould-Champ cherishes the memory of her beloved husband of 31 years, James Champ, III.  She is surrounded by an amazing family consisting of cousins and aunts and a circle of close friends.  She is especially proud of her daughter, Pamela Ann Champ-Powell, son-in-love, Desmond Powell,  their precious new baby girl, Kinsley Ann Powell and their spoiled labradoodle, Brunswick.  Pamela is a Senior Audit Associate at the Tysons Corner office of KPMG, a Big Four Accounting Firm.  She now lives in Manassas, Virginia with her family.  In spite of her adversities, she has modeled what it means to “walk by faith” and has stood firm in her belief that “without faith, it is impossible to please God”.
